LegalEx: Is it unmissable?

Wow, has there been a lot of promotion for the LegalEx event this year in London on 28 and 29 March. So is it THE legal event of the year?
Innovative suppliers, networking opportunities, inspiring talks and how to get ahead of the rivals are the tantalisers offered by the LegalEx organisers, and all for free.
So what exactly is on offer, and is it unmissable?
My experience of LegalEx was a very mixed bag. Some of the talks I attended consisted of a short introduction to a relevant topic, then a sales pitch on how a product meets a business or practice management need.
Having said that, the delivery of the talks and materials is very high quality, and there are a wide range of speakers who can introduce you to every software and technology product there is in the legal world, plus some marketing tools which could make our life easier.
And there are some great talks on offer that don’t have a commercial kick. Viv Williams’ talk on new structures for independent law firms looks well worth attending. And Jane Malcolm from the SRA is speaking on changes, choices and challenges in regulation, which should be very illuminating.

To be fair to the organisers, they are up front about the business focus of the event, and a great range of speakers and topics are on offer.
If you haven’t been before, LegalEx is well worth attending – provided you’re fairly resistant to all the selling, you like the convenience of the legal world’s answer to a shopping mall, you are going for the excellent talks on offer, or you fancy some networking with other managers and partners of mainly smaller to mid size law firms.
There’s also a lot of food outlets at ExCel so you won’t go hungry. But seriously – who thought of giving it the same name as a spreadsheet program?
If any speakers at the event would like to upload a video of their talk on to You Tube (and let me know where we can find it) or send me a video of any talk for uploading onto Law Practice Manager’s You Tube channel, that would be great, and I will write a further post with details of where we can view the talks.
